ISSUE #3 - Safe to Eat

In 2006, several cases of food-borne illnesses called attention to the nation's process for ensur ing the safety of fresh fruit and vegetables. An outbreak of food poisoning from the dangerous bacteria E. coli. was traced in a bag of spinich. Testing revealed that this case originated at a California farm, where feral pigs had spread E. coli from cow manure into spinach fields. Similar incidents followed, causing more people to become ill. First, Americans are consuming greater amounts of fresh produce in an attempt to eat more healthfully. Unlike meat, fresh produce is often consumed raw. Many consumers have called for new safety regulations for the supply of fruit and vegetables. Whereas meat and poultry are highly regulated by the Department of Agriculture, fruit and vegetables fall under the purview of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the states. Thus far, the government has relied primarily on self-regulation by the industry and farmers.

obviously people are considering to eat healthier and they are putting some safety regulations on certain foods. E Coli has been found in 700 stereotypes and they have been identified. The E. coli serotypes that are responsible for the numerous reports of outbreaks traced to the consumption of contaminated foods and beverages. A lot of people still eat spinch even though they had the outbreak.

Blog Entry #8- Elections down, 2012 presidential campaign begins

With the 2010 elections in the rear view mirror, the 2012 U.S. presidential campaign is now under way and would-be candidates are asking themselves: Is President Barack Obama beatable? As of right now Obama is at 45% as a rating and he is getting a thumbs down from voters. Right now he has to compromise with the republicans who are now in control of the house of representatives. Republicans right now don't have no natural candidate for the presidential campaign and this means that anyone is open to this spot.

Now that the republicans have taken over the house of representatives I have a feeling that President Obama is going to have a hard competition with all the republicans are running and in the race to win in 2012. Some people think that he is not doing very well because he isn't solving many of the problems that we should be worrying about. I would like to see who in the republicans side would be running for this position.

Blog Entry #7- Tourist killed by lions while showering

A tourist was killed by lions will he was showering at a popular fishing camp in a remote area of Zimbabwe.Pete Evershed, who was vacationing from the capital Harare, was taking an outdoor shower just before dark Tuesday when up to five lions attacked. After others at the camp heard screams, he was found in the shower with serious neck wounds and later died from loss of blood. But a conservation group said lions are having to compete with humans for food, and that eight villagers were killed in similar attacks earlier this year.

I don't think that national parks here should have outside showers because of what happened to this guy. You also know that any animal can come attack you when you aren't even watching. They should have people supervising and watching animals that come out of no where. The should also have food out at all times for the lions because then it would prevent them from coming out at night and attacking other people that are outside.

Blog Entry #6- 10-year-old gives birth in southern Spain

A ten year old has given birth in southern Spain. Authorities are trying to decide if they should let her have custody of the baby. The baby was born last week in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, said Micaela Navarro, the Andalusia region's social affairs minister. The father of the baby is a minor. The mother and baby were in good health.Authorities do not consider this a case of rape and that no criminal investigation is under way. Under Spanish law, having sex under the age of 13 is classified as child abuse. This case is complicated by the fact that the father of the baby is also a minor and it isn't clear if he could be charged. The daily Diario de Jerez reported the girl was already pregnant when she arrived in Spain, but did not say when she came to this country. It is not clear if the father is in Spain. Studies have shown that teenage girls are more likely to give birth to premature babies and their infants have a higher chance of dying by age one.

I feel that it is not right for a 10 year old to have a kid already and her parents letted her have it. She is so lucky that her baby is healthy. She is also very young that she had it and their could of been problems with having the baby. I personally think that she should be able to keep the baby with the help of her parents. If the parents can't help her out she shouldn't be able to keep the baby.

Blog Entry #5- Teen finds 3 bodies, thought it was a prank

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 16-year-old boy thought he stumbled onto a Halloween prank when he found the bloodied bodies of his brother, mother, and stepfather in his family's home in Martin in northwest Ohio, authorities said Monday. Devon Griffen had spent the night out and returned home Sunday to change his clothes before church , authorities said. After returning from church, he discovered the bodies of his brother, Derek Griffin, 23; their mother, Susan Liske; and her husband, William Liske. The teenager told authorities that looked like a joke from a halloween party but they realized that they weren't a halloween decorations. He ran outside and told his aunt and she called 911.

Opinion: Sadly i feel that halloween is the deadliest holiday. I feel that kids should be out late on a sunday night when you should have a party the day before like some of the restuarants. They have people come in for a costume party and people win awards. I also think that kids should go to the halloween parties or things that go on in town instead of going out and doing these stupid things like this on that happened to this 16 year old boy.
